Isabel García Castro was born in Toledo, Spain, and began playing the cello at the age of seven. She received lessons from María Casado in Toledo, and later also from the renowned Spanish cellist Asier Polo. In 2015, she completed her training at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Jacinto Guerrero in Toledo and was awarded the National Prize of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport for her outstanding achievements. Shortly thereafter, she attracted international attention for the first time. She performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid, won third prize at the Dotzauer Competition for Young Cellists in Dresden, and at the age of 19 was a finalist at the prestigious Pablo Casals International Award. García Castro received her bachelor's degree from the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, where she studied with Enrico Dindo. With the support of a scholarship from the Hirschmann Foundation, she continued her studies at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with Christian Poltera from 2021 onwards, earning a Master of Arts in Music in 2023 with distinction. She also received valuable artistic inspiration from María de Macedo, Stephan Fork, Emil Rovner, Peter Bruns, Enrico Dindo, Rafael Rosenfeld, Troels Svane, and László Fenyó. After positions as an academician with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Academy and as section leader with the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra, she has been a permanent member of the ensemble Spark since 2025. She plays a cello made by Alessandro Ciciliati in 2019, which has been loaned to her by the INSTRUMENTUM Foundation.
